Khalil Ibrahim Al Jaber, FINA Member and President of the Swimming Federation, gave a presentation to FINA officials on the work plan and organizational and logistical preparations for hosting the 2023 World Aquatics Championships, which Doha will host as the first city to host this tournament in the Middle East. Al Jaber, director of the Doha 2023 Aquatics Championships, who heads the championship team during the presentation at the meeting of the International Swimming Federation (FINA), in the capital Abu Dhabi on the sidelines of the 25m World Swimming Championships, reviewed the facilities that will host the championship competitions and the various organizational aspects of the global event.
Al Jaber, President of the Swimming Federation, explained that the World Aquatics Championships 2023 is one of the major championships at the global level, as it includes 6 sports, and it is expected that about 16,000 male and female players will participate in the tournament, which will qualify for the upcoming Summer Olympics in Paris 2024. The presentation was well received. And the appreciation of the members of the International Federation for the efforts made by the organizing committee in Doha, led by His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, Chairman of the Supreme Organizing Committee of the tournament.
Al-Jaber confirmed that Doha owns one of the best airports in the world, 20 minutes away from the venues for the 2023 World Aquatics Championships. He added: The participants in the tournament will obtain an electronic and fast visa through a website that we will provide during the World Championships.
The tournament director stated that Doha will provide about 56,000 rooms from various hotels in Doha to the guests of the Doha 2023 Aquatic Games during this major event.
He praised Dr. Hussain Al-Musallam, President of the International Swimming Federation (FINA), presented the presentation by the Qatar Federation regarding the preparations and arrangements for the tournament, stressing that the Qatari facilities and organizational expertise are considered the best in the Middle East, and that Qatar’s organization of the World Aquatics Championships constitutes an opportunity to demonstrate its capabilities to host major events and to Including the Olympic Games. Doha won the bid to host the World Aquatics Championships, scheduled for 2023, which is considered the most important and largest event in the FINA calendar after the Qatari file won the highest number of votes during the voting process that took place at the FINA Board of Directors meeting in Budapest, Hungary in 2016. Doha, which outperformed Nanjing, China, has the honor to host the World Aquatics Championships for the first time in the Middle East, and Doha is also scheduled to host the Fina Masters World Swimming Championships in 2023.
Mohammed Al Sheeb, Executive Director of the Federation, accompanied by Ibrahim Al-Rumaihi, head of the swimming body, was keen to attend the meetings of the Ordinary General Assembly of the International Federation for Swimming (FINA), which was held on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, on the sidelines of the World Swimming Championships, which concludes its competitions next Tuesday.
