Press Conference for FINA / HOSA Marathon Swim World Series 2018

On Thursday 15th March, 2018 on Doha Cornish, where FINA/HOSA Marathon Swim World Series 2018 takes place, the press conference was held in the presence of Mr. Khaleel Al-Jabir, head of the championship organizing committee, Mr.Talal   Al Darwish, championship’s Executive Director, Mr. Samuel Greethan, Honorary Secretary and member of Technical Committee, Ana Marcela, the Brazilian champion, and Ferry Weertman, the   Dutch champion.

At the beginning Mr. Khaleel Al-Jabir welcomed all the attendees to Doha expressing his wish to enjoy this championship held in Doha for the first time.

Mr. Samuel Greethan said:

“I always look forward to coming to Doha. It is my first time as a technical representative with this event that is a foundation of a good relation between our sport and the people of Doha and this country. I expect the presence of the public to participate in this event which paves the way for World Aquatics Championship2023. The participants are ready to race on Saturday. We have some of the best athletes as well as the number of swimmers which indicates we will have a perfect competition”

The Netherland Champion, Ferry Weertman, said:

“I am very excited to be in Qatar for the first time. It very nice to swim as the weather and water are very pleasant. I am very excited to race as I had a lot of training last couple of weeks. There are a lot of athletes here, so it is going to be a tough race.”

The Brazilian hero, Ana Marcela, said:

“I am really pleased to be in Doha again as I was here in 2014. The place is good. I am ready and excited for the race and the event.”

The journalists started to ask questions about the event to the athletes, FINA member and to Mr. Khaleel Al-Jabir.

Mr. Khaleel Al-Jabir welcomed all the participants from all over the world declaring the presence of 115 of the best swimmers in addition to 365 competitors from different age groups in Doha Challenge Championship. He stated his pleasure with this number of athletes and added “the organizing committee works to facilitate all the tasks to have a unique championship.

Organizing such great events started since 2012 as I think the development is obvious each year. The organizing committee considers the pros and cons for each round to improve the next one.

He concluded “Thanks to all the employees of the organizing committee. Good luck for all the athletes’”. Then he expressed his happiness that the championship receives considerable attention from the state and is honored to be under the auspices of HE Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad AL-Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee,.
